Benefits of Membership
Members are owners
A credit unions responds to the financial needs of its members quickly
and creatively because members are the credit union. The board,
management and staff don't have to worry about making a profit for
third-party investors who may or may not do business at the credit
union.
One member, one vote
Credit unions are based on the concept of fairness and democracy. All
members have equal voting status to elect the organization's volunteer
leaders, regardless of dollars on deposit or services utilized.
Operated by the members, for the members
The board of directors consists of unpaid volunteers, democratically
elected by their fellow members to set policy and oversee operations by
paid professional staff. The board's role is to ensure that the credit
union is financially safe and sound.
Revenues are shared by the members
Banks and thrifts exist to make money for third-party investors; every
dollar that goes to them is one less dollar to help depositors. Credit
unions are different: net revenue is returned to the members in several
forms -- lower loan rates, higher dividend rates, and enhanced service
and convenience.
Member education
By providing members with the tools and knowledge about financial
matters, they become better, more informed consumers. For every
financial activity, from basic budgeting to full-scope financial
planning, members can ask better questions and make better decisions
based on their individual needs.
Benefits of Membership
We really do belong to you. St. Anne Credit Union was founded with the
philosophy of helping one another. As our institution makes money, the
proceeds belong to us the members, not to outside investors. Together
the members share them in the form of dividends on savings, reduced
costs for loans and fees.
